How do I enter the score and finish a Padelio match?

Last updated 2026-07-18

TL;DR:

Save Sets stores a work-in-progress score and moves the match to In progress. Finish match commits the result. A set only counts as finished at 6-0 through 6-4, 7-5, or 7-6 — and a match that's ahead but not won will refuse to finish. Draws are allowed.

Who can enter the score

The match owner and anyone tagged in the match can enter and finish the score. That includes people who haven't accepted their invite yet — confirming participation and recording the score are separate things.

Guests can't, since there's no account behind a guest slot. And nobody can edit a Cancelled match.

Note the asymmetry with the lineup: any player can score, but only the owner can change who played. See matches/players-and-invites.

Save Sets vs Finish match

Two buttons, two different jobs:

  • Save Sets stores whatever you've typed, including a partial or invalid score, and moves the match to In progress. Use it mid-match. It's also the point at which the lineup locks.
  • Finish match commits the result behind a confirmation dialog. It runs the validation below, works out who won, and makes the match count toward everyone's stats.

Step by step

Step 1 — Open the match

From Profile → Matches, the dashboard's Your matches section, or a notification, open the match and stay on the Overview tab.

Step 2 — Type the games per set

Enter games for each side, set by set. Three set rows are always shown; leave unused ones blank.

Step 3 — Save as you go

Tap Save Sets to store the score without committing it. The match moves to In progress and you can come back later.

Step 4 — Finish the match

Tap Finish match and confirm. The match moves to Finished, the result banner shows the winning side or Match drawn!, and it starts counting toward everyone's stats.

What counts as a finished set

A set only counts as complete at:

  • 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4
  • 7-5
  • 7-6

You can type 6-5 or 6-6 while a set is still in play — they save fine — but they will block you from finishing until they resolve.

The score Padelio stores as the match result is the number of sets won, not games.

Why a match might refuse to finish

Three checks run when you finish, each with its own message:

  • "Cannot finish a match with no score." — every set is empty. Enter at least one completed set.
  • "Some sets have an invalid or incomplete score. Fix them before finishing." — at least one set isn't a valid finished set, usually a 6-5 or 6-6.
  • "This match isn't finished — one side is ahead but hasn't won. Play it out, or level the sets to record a draw." — one side leads on sets but hasn't won the match, a single 6-4 for example. Either play the remaining sets, or level the set count to record it as a draw.

That last one is the common surprise. Padelio won't record a one-set lead as a win, because it isn't one.

Draws

Draws are a real result, not a workaround. Finish with equal valid set counts — one set each, say — and the match records as a draw and shows Match drawn!.

A draw counts as neither a win nor a loss, and it's left out of your win rate entirely rather than counting as half a win. See matches/stats-and-history.

Match statuses

  • Upcoming — created, no score entered yet. Everything is available: edit the details, change the lineup, record a score, cancel, or delete.
  • In progress — a score has been saved. You can keep scoring and finish, but the lineup is locked.
  • Finished — the result is recorded and counts toward everyone's stats. The score can still be corrected with Update result, and the match can still be deleted, but it can't be cancelled.
  • Cancelled — called off. Read-only, and stays visible in history.

Correcting a result

Once a match is finished, Finish match becomes Update result. The owner or any player can correct the score, and saving again simply re-records the result. A finished match never drops back to In progress.

Cancelling vs deleting

Both are owner-only, and they are not symmetric:

  • Cancel match calls the match off but keeps it visible in everyone's history as Cancelled. It can't be edited or scored afterwards. You can't cancel a match that's already finished — you'll get "Cannot cancel a finished match."
  • Delete match removes it permanently, at any status, including finished ones. It disappears for everyone in the match along with its contribution to their stats.

The in-app hint sums it up: "Cancelling keeps the match visible in history. Deleting removes it and its stats for everyone."

On mobile both live under Manage match → Advanced. On web they're on the match page itself, next to Edit match.

FAQ

Why won't my match finish?
Three things block it — an empty score, a set that isn't a valid finished set (6-5 and 6-6 are the usual culprits), or a match where one side leads but hasn't actually won, like a single 6-4. Play it out or level the sets to record a draw.
Can I fix a score after finishing?
Yes. The button becomes Update result and any player or the owner can correct the score. A finished match never drops back to In progress.
Can I record a draw?
Yes. Finish with equal set counts — one set each, for example — and the match records as a draw. Draws are tracked separately and are excluded from your win rate.
Should I cancel or delete a match that didn't happen?
Cancel it. Cancelling keeps the match visible in history and makes it read-only. Deleting removes it permanently, for everyone in it, along with its contribution to their stats.
Do guests need to confirm before I can finish?
No. Nothing about confirmation blocks scoring. Anyone tagged in the match can enter and finish the score at any point, whether or not they've accepted their invite.
