How do I upgrade my Padelio crew's subscription?

Last updated 2026-05-10

TL;DR:

Crew ownership is a paid feature. The two tiers are Crew (3 members, 1 crew owned) and Crew Pro (10 members, 3 crews owned). Buy through Settings → Subscription on mobile (RevenueCat) or app.padelio.org/settings/billing on the web (Stripe). Once the Owner is on Crew or Crew Pro, every Admin and Manager in their crew can host Pro events under the crew without their own paid plan.

Who pays — and who gets to use it

The crew subscription is held by the Owner, not by each member. There's exactly one paying account per crew. Everyone else uses the crew's plan for free as long as they're an active member.

What that means in practice:

  • An Admin or Manager can open Create → Tournament, pick the crew in the Host as selector, and Padelio applies the crew's Pro plan to that tournament — Pro formats, larger capacity, branding — without any paywall on their own account.
  • The same is true for crew-hosted leagues and crew-linked communities.
  • A Staff member or regular member never sees a paywall for crew actions either, because they don't create events in the first place.
  • If a member wants to host a tournament under their own profile (not the crew), then their personal subscription tier applies. The crew's plan only covers events hosted by the crew.

So you only need one person on a paid plan per crew. Pick whoever's happy to handle billing and make them the Owner.

If billing needs to change hands, the new Owner takes over via ownership transfer and must have their own Crew/Crew Pro subscription for the crew to keep its features.

The two paid tiers

Pricing varies by region and platform; the comparison page in your subscription manager has the current numbers. The structural differences are:

Crew

The entry-level paid tier. Designed for a small friend group:

  • 1 crew owned by you.
  • 3 members per crew (including the Owner — so 2 invitees).
  • 1 venue linked to the crew.
  • Full crew branding (name, brand colour, accent colour, logo).
  • Members can host crew tournaments and leagues using the crew's plan.

Crew Pro

Adds more capacity:

  • 3 crews owned by you.
  • 10 members per crew (including the Owner — so 9 invitees).
  • 3 venues per crew.
  • Same branding as Crew (no per-tier branding-feature gating).
  • Same member entitlement model — Pro tournaments, Pro leagues — covered by the crew's plan.

Crew Pro is the right pick if your friend group has more than two other people, if you want to run multiple crews (e.g. one per club section), or if you've outgrown a Crew tier.

Club and Club Pro (Phase 2 — coming later)

You may see Club and Club Pro mentioned in the app or in older help content. These tiers are reserved for a future Phase 2 release that broadens crews into the Organisation surface. They are not currently available for purchase, and the related infrastructure in the codebase is intentionally dormant. If you need very large member counts today, the practical path is to run multiple Crew Pro crews (3 per Owner) and link them via communities.

How to upgrade

Crew billing isn't managed from the crew page directly — it's part of your personal subscription (the same place you'd manage your individual Pro plan if you had one). Picking a Crew tier on your account is what enables crew ownership.

Step 1 — Open Profile → Settings → Subscription

Tap the Profile tab, then the settings (gear) icon in the top-right of the profile screen. The settings sheet opens — tap Subscription.

Step 2 — Pick Crew or Crew Pro

The plan list shows your options. Tap Crew or Crew Pro and pick Monthly or Annual (annual is cheaper per month).

Step 3 — Complete the purchase

Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Google account. Padelio uses RevenueCat for mobile billing. Features unlock as soon as the purchase confirms — you can now create a crew (or own up to three on Crew Pro).

Managing the subscription

You can change plans, switch billing period, or cancel from the same place you bought it — Profile → Settings → Subscription on mobile, or app.padelio.org/settings/billing on the web. On mobile, deeper actions (refunds, family sharing) go through your App Store or Play Store account directly.

If you cancel:

  • Paid features stay active until the end of the billing period.
  • After the period ends, the crew loses crew-Pro features. The crew itself isn't auto-deleted, but actions that need a paid tier (creating Pro events under the crew, inviting more members beyond the free-personal cap) stop working.
  • Padelio doesn't auto-remove members or crews when you exceed a cap on a downgrade — the structures stay in place, just frozen for changes that would now exceed the new limit.

FAQ

Is there a free tier for crews?
No. Crew ownership requires the Crew or Crew Pro subscription. The free tier can join a crew that someone else owns (joining is always free), but can't create one. The "free crews with limited members" framing is a previous version of the help center — current behaviour is paywall-on-create.
Does the crew Owner pay for everyone?
Yes. The subscription is held by the crew Owner only. Once it's active, every Admin and Manager in the crew can create Pro tournaments, leagues, and communities under the crew without their own paid plan — Padelio applies the crew's plan automatically when they pick the crew in the Host as selector. Members never pay anything to use the crew.
Do members need a personal subscription to join the crew?
No. Joining a crew is always free, regardless of the crew's tier. Members only need a personal subscription if they want to host their own non-crew tournaments under Pro features.
Can I downgrade?
Yes — through the same App Store / Google Play / Stripe subscription you bought. Downgrading from Crew Pro to Crew tightens the member cap (10 → 3) and the crews-owned cap (3 → 1). Padelio doesn't auto-remove members or crews when you exceed a cap; the change takes effect at the next billing cycle and the crew operates with whatever it currently has.
Do I get a refund if I cancel mid-month?
Refunds aren't automatic. You keep paid features until the end of the billing period and won't be charged again. For genuine billing issues, contact support.
What happens to the subscription when ownership is transferred?
Ownership transfers move the **crew**, not the **subscription**. The new Owner needs their own Crew (or Crew Pro) subscription for the crew to keep functioning past the previous Owner's billing period. If they don't have one, the crew loses paid features at the end of the period.
