What can I change in a Padelio tournament after creating it?
Last updated 2026-05-10
Title, club, date, capacity, courts, price, currency, and visibility stay editable through both the UPCOMING and STARTED phases. Format, pair variant, and host crew are fixed at creation. Once the tournament is FINISHED, edits are blocked entirely. Delete is permanent — no soft-delete or undo.
Where to find the settings
From the tournament page, open the Edit entry (mobile: settings icon in the top-right of the tournament screen; web: edit/manage button in the tournament header). Only owners, org Managers+, and crew Staff+ see the editor — everyone else sees a read-only view.
What you can edit
Padelio uses a single mutation (updateBasics) for tournament settings, gated by status. The simple rule:
- Anything in this list, while the tournament is UPCOMING or STARTED.
- Nothing, once the tournament is FINISHED.
Always editable (until FINISHED)
- Title — the tournament's name.
- Club — pick a different existing club, or change the custom club name.
- City — Padelio re-geocodes for the map pin.
- Date and time — when it's scheduled to play.
- Capacity — total RESERVED player count, from 4 up to your plan's cap (getting-started/upgrading-to-paid). Increasing capacity promotes anyone on the waitlist; decreasing it pushes the lowest-priority RESERVED participants back to the waitlist (they're not removed). Raising capacity past your plan's cap is blocked — an event already above it keeps working and stays editable, you just can't raise it further.
- Courts — adjust the courts list. Padelio enforces a minimum of one court per four players.
- Price and currency — entry fee.
- Visibility — Public (discoverable, anyone can join via the join code) or Private (owner approval required for non-owner joiners). Only these two options exist; there is no separate "Crew-only" privacy mode.
Role-gated
Crew Staff can edit title, club, date, courts, and visibility on a crew-hosted tournament, but price, capacity, and currency require crew Manager+ (or owner / org Manager+).
Fixed at creation, not editable later
- Format — Americano / Mexicano / Mix In / King of the Court / one of the Pro formats. Picked in step 1 of the create wizard and locked from then on.
- Pair variant — Fixed Pairs or Dynamic Pairs. Locked at creation.
- Scoring variant — Classic / Competitive / Win-Lose. Locked at creation.
- Host crew / organisation — picked via the Host as selector before creation; cannot be changed afterwards.
- Description and AI-generated copy — set in step 3; not exposed by the basics editor (handled separately if at all).
If any of these need to change, the path is to delete this tournament and create a new one.
Editing a pending round's duration
Round duration is a per-round attribute, not a tournament-wide setting. To change the timer for a round that hasn't started yet, open the round list, tap the pending round, and update its duration. The current (running) round and past rounds keep the duration they started with — only future pending rounds accept edits. See tournaments/rounds-and-timer.
Removing players
Removal of participants is allowed only before the tournament starts (UPCOMING). Once the first round begins (STARTED), removals are blocked to keep generated rounds and their scores consistent. There's no built-in "replace" action — to swap a player before round 1, remove them and add the replacement separately. After round 1 has started, the entry must remain even if the person doesn't show up.
Adding players (Padelio users or guests) stays allowed throughout, including during STARTED — see tournaments/add-players.
Deleting a tournament
From the settings, scroll to Delete tournament and confirm twice. Deletion is permanent and Pro-gated — it is removed for all participants, the share link stops working, and the result disappears from the participants' profiles. There's no soft-delete, archive, or undo.
If the tournament is hosted by a Crew Pro crew, the crew's Pro plan covers the delete; otherwise the actor needs personal Pro.

FAQ
- Why can't I change the format after creation?
- Format and pair variant (Fixed Pairs vs Dynamic Pairs) are immutable from the moment the tournament is created — they shape every round Padelio generates. To use a different format, delete the tournament and create a new one.
- Can I change a tournament from public to private after starting?
- Yes. The **Visibility** toggle (Public ↔ Private) stays editable on UPCOMING and STARTED tournaments. Private tournaments require the owner to approve new joiners; existing participants stay regardless.
- How do I archive a tournament without deleting it?
- There's no separate Archive action. Padelio keeps FINISHED tournaments in your history automatically — they're not in your active list, but the share link and results stay accessible. Delete is the only way to remove a tournament permanently.
- Can I change which crew the tournament is hosted by?
- No. The host crew is set at creation (via the **Host as** selector) and can't be changed afterwards. To re-attribute the tournament to a different crew, delete it and recreate.
- Can the tournament price be changed after creation?
- Yes — by the owner, an org Manager+, or a crew Manager+. Crew Staff can edit other basics (title, club, date, courts, visibility) but not price, capacity, or currency.
