How do I add teams or players to a Padelio league?
Last updated 2026-05-10
For Fixed-Teams seasons, register teams as duos — give each team a name and pick two players (Padelio users or guests). For Dynamic-Teams seasons, add individual players to the season roster. Either way, the roster is fully editable while the season is DRAFT; once ACTIVE, removal is blocked but player swaps and additions still work.
Fixed-Teams seasons
Each team is a registered duo with a team name and two players. The team is the unit of competition — standings track wins, draws, losses, and points per team.
Adding a team
From the season page, tap Add team. You'll be asked for:
- Team name (required) — typically the players' surnames, an inside joke, or a club identifier.
- Player 1 and Player 2 — search Padelio users or add as guests (name, optional level 1.0–10.0).
Tap Save. The team appears in the season roster.
There is no per-team substitute slot, no per-team logo, and no per-team brand colour — Padelio's team model is just { name, player1, player2 }. League-wide branding is set on the league, not per team.
Editing a team
While the season is in DRAFT, the owner can rename the team and swap either player freely.
Once the season is ACTIVE:
- Team name stays editable.
- Player swaps are allowed for either of the two players, with no cap on how many swaps you make. The schema's "one player → one team per season" rule still applies, so the new player can't already be on another team in this season.
- Removing a team is disabled once the season is past DRAFT. If you need to drop a team mid-season, the team has to ride out — there's no "remove team after publish" path. Plan rosters carefully before publishing.
Once the season is FINISHED, CANCELLED, or ARCHIVED, the roster is read-only.
Self-registration via the join code
Each season has a join code. Anyone with the code can register themselves through the Join screen. Important detail for Fixed-Teams seasons: joiners enter as individual participants, not as pre-formed teams. The owner then pairs them into teams from the season's roster. This is by design — letting joiners self-pair would conflict with the "one player per team per season" constraint and the owner's roster control.
For Dynamic-Teams seasons, self-registration adds the player directly to the roster (no pairing step needed).
Dynamic-Teams seasons
There are no permanent teams. The season has a player roster; pairings are computed each match round.
Adding players
From the season page, tap Add player. Search Padelio users or add guests. Players appear in the roster and feed into round pairings and standings.
Editing the roster
While the season is in DRAFT, the roster is fully editable.
Once the season is ACTIVE:
- Adding new players still works — they show up in pairings from the next round forward.
- Removing a player who has already played is blocked — their results are part of the season's history.
Once the season is FINISHED or CANCELLED, the roster is read-only.
Limits
Every plan caps how many participants a single season can hold:
| Plan | Participants per season |
|---|---|
| Free | 8 |
| Padelio Pro | 32 |
| Crew | 64 |
| Crew Pro | 264 |
The cap counts participants, not teams — so on the free tier a Fixed-Teams season holds up to 4 teams (4 × 2 = 8 player slots), a Dynamic-Teams season up to 8 individuals, and a Singles season up to 8 players.
For a season hosted by a crew, the crew owner's plan sets the cap — a Crew Pro crew's league gets 264 even if the member who created it is on the free tier.
Only adding participants is gated. A season that's already over the cap keeps running as-is; nobody is removed. See getting-started/upgrading-to-paid to raise it.
Seasons with divisions
If the season has divisions enabled, every participant also needs a tier — a player can't enter matches until they're assigned to one. From the Members tab, use Assign to division… next to each participant. Self-registered joiners land as Unassigned and are approved into a division via Approve into division… in the same step.
A banner at the top of the Members tab counts how many players still need a division. The season can't move from DRAFT to ACTIVE until every division has a schedule and every member is placed. Once ACTIVE, division moves are locked. See leagues/divisions for the full flow.

FAQ
- Can I edit a team after the season starts?
- Yes. The owner can swap either player in a team at any point while the season is in DRAFT or ACTIVE — there's no "one swap" cap. Adding new teams is allowed in DRAFT only; removing a team is also DRAFT-only. Once the season is FINISHED or CANCELLED, the roster is read-only.
- How do guests work in Fixed-Teams seasons?
- Same as tournaments — register a team where one or both slots are guests (just names, optionally a starting level). They're tracked in the season but won't have profiles or stats until they sign up and claim their entries.
- Can a player be on more than one team in the same season?
- No. The schema enforces "one player → one team per season" via a database constraint. They can be on different teams in different seasons or different leagues.
- Is there a roster cap on the free tier?
- Yes. Free seasons accept up to 8 participants total (counting both team players and individuals). Paid plans raise it rather than removing it — 32 on Padelio Pro, 64 on Crew, 264 on Crew Pro. The cap applies to participants, not teams — so a Fixed-Teams season can hold up to 4 teams on the free tier.
